Zak Hanif

Zak Hanif started his career as an actor. Since graduating from drama school in 2001 he has worked extensively on film, television, and also theatre. His directing career started in the theatre where he worked on a couple of small productions, Desire and Hope. In 2004 he got the opportunity to work with Aankar Arts, and direct a community theatre project, aimed for the ethnic minorities based in the west of Scotland. The Corner Shop is Zak’s first commissioned short film.
 
Zak has been selected onto the Digital Shorts Scheme with the project Homecoming
 
A short film exploring the nature of power and conflict within the traditional Asian family. An ordinary British Asian family ready themselves for the holy day of Eid. But soon the celebrations turn sour as smouldering family resentments and unexpected racial hatred rise to the surface as the ‘family’ finds themselves in conflict with each other.
