Richard West

Richard wrote and produced a feature film Gorgeous at the end of his first year of a film degree. On graduating he got the job of producing a feature film called AKA, which took him to LA where it won best film at Outfest and then onto Sundance. It picked up an armful of awards, got UK and US theatrical distribution. It continues to sell internationally on DVD. From here Richard produced four short films which between them garnered a fistful of awards.
 
Richard decided to concentrate on writing with a view to becoming a director. He has written five feature length screenplays and worked as a script editor. One script was commissioned by R. and B. Productions and is currently in development. Another is in development through his own production company.
 
Last year Richard completed a 15-minute short (written and directed) called Corpse.
 
When not making films he teaches drama, script writing and film-making in schools, colleges, psychiatric hospitals and prisons.
 
Richard has been selected onto the Digital Shorts Scheme by Screen South with the project Die Laughing
 
Meet Charlie and Syd-grandson and granddad. Charlie, 16, is a wannabe stand-up comic. Syd, 65, wears a beat up Stetson, cowboy boots and a bootlace tie. He's a philandering 60's stoner who plays the Country and Western circuit. Following the death of Charlie's mum, they are thrown together when Syd takes responsibility for Charlie and keeps him out of state care. But Charlie can't forgive Syd for not being there for his mum, at her death. They go on the road in a broken down van. Syd has a gig to do, but Charlie has other ideas. But when he attempts to sabotage things and show up Syd for the waster he is, it backfires and Syd goes on stage to rapturous applause.
